Emme's Pacifier Obsession

A few weeks ago we noticed that if Emme has two pacifiers in front of her she changes them out over and over again like she doesn't realize she already has one in her mouth. The problem is every time we tried to film it she gets sidetracked by trying to play with the camera instead and stops doing it. Well, we finally sort of got it on camera. Not quite as hilarious as other times, but still entertaining...at least to us. Now we just have to somehow get her on camera laughing hysterically at the world map when I say "Is Emme going there?"

I have tried uploading said video about a million times and my Ugandan internet has decided it hates me and cute baby videos.

Lonely Planet Has A Lot of Faith....

Lonely Planet named Uganda as the #1 Travel Destination for 2012. That being said Myanmar and Ukraine are #2 and #3 so take that with a grain of salt...

A lot of this country's appeal lie in hiking in remote parts of the country that would virtually impossible with a baby. Hopefully in a year or so Emme will be more easy going and not need mommy to do everything for her so mommy can go play with the gorillas.

I think I Was Supposed to Post This A While Ago...

This video is longer than 45 seconds which I think is the cut off of emailable data directly from my iPod and this one is longer....therefore I just uploaded it--with an actual cord--GASP!
Emme liked opening her presents on Christmas--it just bowled her over. Hey oh!

I got Mzungu Problems

Can't decide if it's worth bringing our nanny on a safari with us. The hotel we are going to doesn't have nanny quarters...only driver's quarters.

My bobby pins get stuck in the mosquito netting.

My hair turned green from a leisurely day in the pool.

The man that comes to my house to give me mani/pedis and thread my eyebrows is late

I am still using the "I don't have a driver therefore I can't work out" excuse

If any of these things happen to you then you might have Mzungu Problems

Ian the Dwarf Man Baby with a Hairpiece

Ugandans have trouble with pronouns. I feel like even America the most uneducated still know the difference between "she" and "he." I understand that we have a difference in clothing attire here than is the norm in the states. Women do NOT wear pants here, only dresses or skirts therefore their baby girls are either dressed in dresses or local tribal wraps. However, Emme is always wearing a girly-looking frock. It might be shorts and a top or a romper but it's usually covered in something pink or swirly. Also, Emme is also still bald. But from where I come from bald babies can be either sex. Therefore, whenever I meet someone new and they assume she is a boy I really don't take offense but I DO say. SHE is a girl. Not HE is a girl. Somehow though, no matter what I do--Emme is a boy.

Our gardener still says--"how is baby Emma?"

"SHE is fine" I say.

"I miss that baby boy."

Awkward.

I don't know if boys are considered more of a blessing or something but I really don't get it. Maybe in Lugandan the word "baby" is always masculine or something--I honestly have no idea. But it's getting worse.

Yesterday Jon and I were at the coffee shop and a waiter who we've had before wanted to give Emme fist bumps and calling her "my brodah" (that's "my brother") who can't hear my Ugandan accent. So, when he asks what her name is Jon and I both emphatically say "HER name is EMME." Our waiter then proceeds to draw a picture of her to give to her as a gift.

Upon first look I thought--oh Emme looks like she has a hairpiece, then I thought oh the waiter's name is Ian, then upon closer look I notice it says "Ian" BY Alfred or something. So apparently Emme is synonymous with Ian and Ian looks like an angry Man-Baby.

Then he says "Oh look at her! I mean HIM--so sorry, so sorry." Awkward again.

Jon and I then just proceed to look at each other and laugh because what else can you do after that. So we have an adorable baby boy named Emma or Ian with a hairpiece but we love him all the same.

Someone is a Precious Baby

I realized I hadn't uploaded a video in a while so I decided to catch Emme playing today. Just doing what she normally does--being a precious baby.

Emme likes to smile and giggle at everyone and loves to read (and chew) her books. She does NOT like solid foods yet. She keeps vomiting up her rice cereal...here's to hoping she doesn't have mommy's tummy issues...
